What Not to Say...Part I

A few of these were posted recently on Facebook and I thought they were all really interesting.  Just another example of how many different ways there are to be a good mom, it doesn't have to fit into one box.  Not every woman can, or wants, to stay at home, whether financially or emotionally it's just not for her.  I have heard (paraphrasing here) "You shouldn't have a child until you can financially afford to stay at home", or "If you don't want the responsibility of staying home and parenting your child, why even have one?"  Yep, people still think like that.  I think, whatever makes a happy mom and baby, whatever works for you. Hopefully the working vs sahm judgement can take a back seat to moms/women supporting one another instead of competing and trying to prove why one way is "best".

10 Things Never to Say to a Working Mom

Mom bloggers sound off on the worst things to say to a career woman with kids. PLUS: What stay-at-home moms could do without hearing ever again.

1. It must be hard missing all those special moments every day. Whether P really never hit a milestone at daycare, or whether her sitter was just nice enough never to tell me, as far as I know I have seen all her firsts-crawling, walking, etc!
2. I suppose it's smart that you're working. You know, in case your husband leaves you some day.

3. I'm surprised you went back to work. Your husband seems so successful.

4. It's cute when they call your nanny "Mama."

5. I just love my kids too much to leave them during the day.  All good mothers love their children!  Some moms love their child more when they go to work, and need that away time to enjoy their little one more.  Nothing wrong w/that, that was me when P was very small, all day every day with her I would have been more stressed and probably not a very good mama to her therefore

6. Did you see Dateline? The one with the hidden camera in the day care?

7. I could never let someone else raise my children. But that's just me!  Passive agressive way of saying, my way is better, you aren't raising your own child. Give me a break! Does the babysitter do middle of the night wake ups? No

8. I hated my mom because she was never home after school like everyone else's mom. I went to day care while my mom worked as a nurse & I never thought twice about it!  She was out earning a living and helping people every day, and if I choose to go back to work full-time, my child(ren) will see that a woman can be successful & make a difference through their work as well.

9. You must feel so guilty.

10. I wish I were as laid-back as you and could just let the housework go.
